Watch Past Films
AN INTRODUCTION TO BYFC FILM CASE STUDIES
Brooklyn Young Filmmakers hopes our Case Studies of short films we produced in our MAKE A FILM Class Series will be valuable resources to developing filmmakers, and to anyone who loves film.
Regardless of whether you think our films are wonderful or so-so, reviewing our case studies will teach you a lot about the process of developing a script and making a film. Reading about our mistakes and problem solving will make it easier for you when you make your film, or help you be more informed when you work on someone else’s film.
To do a BYFC Film Case Study, let your starting point be the viewing of the film itself. Then proceed in order through the stages we went through:
1) The original Student Script
2) A Critique of the Student Script, with suggestions of how it might be changed
3) The rewritten Shooting Script (and sometimes renamed)
4) The Short Film (Watch the film again! You will notice new things!)
5) Discussion Guide (about the making of the film, and information on the story’s themes and how they played out visually and in dialogue)
